Over the last few years, Priscilla Ligwa small, 4 room home has been converted into a care home for 16 HIV orphans. More 2 Life started to support this wonderful care home in 2008 by members “adopting” 3 of the orphans as part of the HIV Orphans project.

The children of John Stainer School in Brockley, London, wanted to make a difference to the lives of the orphan children in Priscilla's house. They were very keen to support the educational needs of these kids and decided to raise money to pay the salary of a tutor. The aim of the tutor is to support the children with their homework in the afternoons as well as to support their learning of reading and writing in English. In December 2010, the children of John Stainer raised £1200, which will support a tutor, Fezeka Ligwa, for the whole year of 2011.

In 2009 the community of Nyanga and Gugelethu started a renovation project of Priscilla’s home and More 2 Life contributed more than ZAR 40,000 towards this community project. In response to this, Priscilla has opened up her home to the community to serve as a crèche for babies in the morning when the older children are in school and as an after school club for the older children during the afternoon. Ds Tinus van Zyl is actively involved in this project and is currently helping to find additional support for Priscilla from social workers and teachers. Very recently Priscilla has suffered a very serious stroke resulting in her being partially paralysed and needing to use a wheelchair. Consequently she is in desperate need of help to look after the home and the children.

With effect from the beginning of January 2010, More 2 Life has agreed to adopt Priscilla’s Care Home as a new standalone project. The running cost of Priscilla’s Care Home is approximately ZAR12,800 per month (£1,164 at ZAR/£ Fx rate of 11), being ZAR 550 per child per month and ZAR 2,000 per month for 2 support workers/teachers to help with the crèche and after school club.

By contributing £50 a month you can sponsor 1 child or make a significant contribution towards the salary of the much needed voluntary workers.
